Earth Day 2021 - The Crown Estate

The theme for Earth Day 2021 is Restore our Earth. This year, Wild West End is featuring a number of case studies from our partners – showcasing how we are contributing to making western London more sustainable.

In the case study by The Crown Estate you can find out more about their extensive greening efforts. Urban greening, such as green roofs and walls, provide both environmental, social and economic benefits. Some of the benefits include enhanced habitats, biodiversity, air quality and water management,  and increased urban cooling – vital services for creating thriving cities.

Greening Regent Street and St James’s

Recently The Crown Estate has delivered a number of features which have increased greening and supported biodiversity along Regent Street and in St. James’s. In St. James’s Market an existing wall was transformed with plants whilst planters with trees and seating were installed for a perfect spot to rest.

Additionally, 332 new planters with 62 semi-mature trees have been installed as part of the Regent Street public realm project to widen pavements and install cycle lanes. The new greening is already supporting local wildlife with honeybees recently spotted foraging on the flowers.
