170 Piccadilly Terrace
Office building 170 Piccadilly offers a new landscaped terrace that brings nature to the heart of the building. Carefully selected planting and detailed hard landscaping create sheltered green spaces for work and relaxation, improving the customer experience while supporting biodiversity through thoughtful species selection and ongoing maintenance.
At 170 Piccadilly, a new landscaped terrace has been designed to create a light and inviting green space for building users. The planting design was guided by a detailed sun analysis, ensuring each species thrives in its setting while providing visual diversity and seasonal interest throughout the year.
Plants which provide year-round greenery were chosen, and with a bulb layer below to add colour and texture in the Spring. Climber support systems like expanded metal mesh, box-section frames and the Jakob Green Guide System, allow vertical planting which softens the surrounding architecture.
The terrace layout combines hard and soft landscaping to create a visually rich environment, with seating areas designed for different uses, from quiet, intimate spots to larger tables for team gatherings. The result is a multifunctional outdoor space surrounded by planting, enhancing comfort and connection to nature.
Situated in the heart of Piccadilly, external space is limited in office buildings, posing a challenge in connecting building users with nature. However, through careful exploitation of the space available, a balance has been struck between delivering an impactful green area, with a design-stage Urban Greening Factor of 0.17, and a terrace that adds value to the customers’ lease and wellbeing.
